BEST ESSENTIAL OILS FOR WINTER

BEST ESSENTIAL OILS FOR WINTER - D'Scent Essentials

This time of the year is brutal for the skin.  The extreme cold can wreak havoc on your hands, your face, and any other part of your body that’s exposed to the elements.  You need beneficial ingredients to work with your skin and body to help heal the dry, cracked skin and maintain its moisture and suppleness.

Some of the best ingredients to use for your skin are essential oils.  When used properly, essential oils can provide you with beautiful skin, fantastic hair, and even a sense of well-being, when used in a diffuser or humidifier.  Below are 5 great essential oils that can be used during this time of year to help you get through the winter.  Taken from EssentialOil.com, use these five oils to improve your skin and body care.

Eucalyptus – This oil can be used for a myriad of purposes.  In soaps, lotions, and butters, it can be helpful in treating eczema and acne.  Although not scientifically proven, Eucalyptus Oil has been used enough in various products to prove its usefulness for the skin.  It has been scientifically proven to be anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial, so that’s also a bonus for people with arthritis and sore joints.  And, we all know the power the oil has to clear our sinuses!  Just think about Vick’s Vapor Rub and its uses, and you’ll understand my meaning.

Lavender – One of the most relaxing oils around, Lavender Oil helps to reduce stress levels and relax the brain waves, so that you can go about your day with a clear head.  The oil is also great for moisturizing and soothing dry, chapped skin, which usually happens during this time of year.  D’Scent Essentials Tina’s Treat has Lavandin as its scent, which is like organic Lavender.

Peppermint – Whenever I think of this essential oil, I think of a cool, minty fragrance that’s usually affiliated with the holidays.  Not only does the oil remind one of that time of year, it’s wonderful for reducing pain and inflammation, just like Eucalyptus Essential Oil.  (Must be the minty scent…)

The scent has also been known to be invigorating, and when used in different products, can provide a bit of a “wake-up” call to a person, to help them energize and get their day started.

Cinnamon – Another signature scent of the holidays, Cinnamon Essential Oil also has excellent properties for the skin.  If your skin is dry or irritated, this oil can be used in different products to help improve and heal your skin.  If your skin is dull, Cinnamon can assist with your circulation to improve its appearance, as well.  Joint and muscle pain? – This oil helps with that, also.  Not only will your skin thank you, but you’ll smell like cinnamon rolls!  Mmm…cinnamon rolls…

Frankincense – This essential oil contains properties that also help to reduce stress and anxiety, moods that occur frequently during the winter.  The oil is also great for the respiratory system, and in this day and age, that is wonderful if you’re suffering from congestion.  Use it in a diffuser, and like the Eucalyptus and Peppermint Oils, Frankincense will clear the sinuses and help you breathe easy.

Using Frankincense in other products also helps your skin, thanks to the respiratory benefits the oil provides.  Your skin is the biggest organ on your body, and it needs to breathe.  That’s why we sweat, although there’s very little sweating in the winter.  Our Mango Mambo soap uses Frankincense as the scent, and it is a very moisturizing soap.  Your skin would be happy if you used it.

So, there you have it; five essential oils that are great for the winter.  Keep in mind, if you plan to create anything with essential oils, please be sure to use a carrier oil like Coconut Oil or Olive Oil.  Some essential oils can be irritating to the skin if used by themselves.

If you haven’t used any of the above essential oils yet, please do.  They will help you get through this cold weather.  Don’t forget to check out D’Scent Essentials products; we have several items that contain some of the essential oils above.  Give them a try; we’re sure your skin will be much happier!
